agreed with OT.
However, since some have brought up points about non-linear game play, how about this as a simple solution:
When a charcter leaves a town or enters a new area outside of the normal mission directions, maybe there should be a promt informing them that it may be best for them to be such a lvl before entering this area or that they could skip some of the long walks by doing mission X (nolain, frost gate, the Wilds).

New people are informed at least and experinced players can ignore.

This has been a pet peeve of mine since launch - 98% of everyone wailing to be rushed is this category; the other 2% are the "been there, done that" crowd that are too impatient to do it again.
And now, thanks to the greed of so many, we have a large core of unskilled, arrogant, clueless players in the high end game.
You can thank yourselves for this self inflicted tragedy.

The only reason i would get rushed anywhere is to save myself resources and money on buying several sets of armour when i can just get the best and then go back to where i was questing. Appart from the problem in the arenas with high armour i dont see a problem in PVE with low level chars in high level places, its not like anyone in the right mind would take a level 10 character on the ascention missions with them.

I think a level restriction on armour would be the best idea but preferably AFTER i get my droknars armour for my mesmer :P

/signed by a noob that started in June and who has not yet finished the Ashes quest in DL.

I understand that there are those players that only do PvP, but all players should still be required to go thru the missions/storyline all the way to Ascension at least once (Ascension also meaning attaining at least level 15 or higher as I understand it)......after that, rush to the end, open the skills, head for Arenas or HoH.

and I realize that I may or may not be entitled to an opinion on this subject, As a noob..... I do agree with your premise, Lost.

I see nothing wrong with it.
If a character chooses to be rushed, then we know hes been rushed.

For example, if I saw a lvl 18 (let alone lvl 10) in Thunderhead keep, then i know he's not accended, hence i'll never ever let him into the party.

Its up to you whether you get your party screwed up if you choose some lower levels. For the later missions after accension, i except no one except lvl 20s.

The only problem is that rushing has become an epidemic. I can accept that some people (especially PvP players) don't want to do the missions and such - and I can respect that (even if I can't understand it).

But when it takes a few hours in the Desert to find a party of qualified (ie: level 17 or higher) pl;ayers who want to actually journey to the next town instead of getting run....it starts messing it up for those of us who do want to play the game.

Of course - if so few of us remain who want to actually play the game, maybe we're doing it wrong...

Agreed. I could see ANet taking action against rushers if they were really a considerable issue that's ruining everyone else's experience... but they're not. They're just something people like to bitch about in the "OMG OUR MONK SUCKS!!!1" sense... meaning it doesn't actually have to be true at all for you to find 50 idiots willing to swear that it was the one determining factor in why they died at Thirsty River for the Nth time.

Suggesting that getting rid of rushers increases your odds of getting better groups later in the game is simply naive. Just take a look at UW/FoW.... they've restricted that to ascended players, do you see less idiots in UW/FoW groups now? No, you see less lvl 4 people asking for a party - but you'd have to be an idiot to invite these, anyway.

Restricting the ways people are allowed to play the game won't reduce the amount of ascended, lvl 20, 100s-of-play-hours idiots.

It'll just give people new places to rush to. They'll still get to the desert at lvl 8 if they want to, and you can still blame them for screwing up your group if you really have to.

agreed. THere are rushers at TOA for those who want to go to Sanctum Cay or Fishermans Haven. Even if you close off Lornars Pass, there is still a short cut, though not as quick.

I realy dont care if people wanna rush (Rushed my 3th character as well, though I kind of did the story backwards now :P). Its their 45 euros, not mine. Though I do know that it is possible for someone to be a verry low level, get rushed to the verry best armor and then play in the first arenas and be unbeatable. I already know one that has done this and that I do find a pitty. So they should dissable that (required lvl for armor or something).

GW claims this game is open ended. If I was forced to follow a specific storyline and follow a set path without being able to skip around as I please, I'll just go play a side scrolling action game. In fact, I would no longer be playing the game if this idea was implemented.

Instead, enforce weapon restrictions. Create armor restrictions.

Where are you going to draw the line? So if you can't rush then should we HAVE to beat every mission in order too? People that don't do the Bonus while doing the Mission for the first time are they cheating too?

Come on. There is an Old Saying that my Dad taught me: "You run your Railroad and I'll run mine..." Leave others alone to do what they consider fun in this game.

I also feel that if somebody wants to rush, let them do so. It isnt our responsibility as a human being to ensure that they do the storyline in order. Why would we want that control over other players? Furthermore, if they want to rush, just let them, and dont let them into your party if they seem clueless. Its not that hard to tell.

I feel people can screw up their gaming experience any way they want, BUT it should be somehow made clear to first time players that grabbing a rusher and suddenly finding yourself in Draknors isn't how the game is supposed to be played.

I'm sorry if it'd cut into someones livelihood, and I don't know if restrictions is the right way to do it, but newbies really need to know that when you do missions or quests you're supposed to actually be alive and actually fight monsters, and that the missions and quests is the actual game, not some sort of tutorial to skip through. They need to know that rushing their first character simply is pointless.

It is a very good Idea, I totally agree with the idea and the logic behind it, keeps balance in lower lvl areas so that it doesn't get over done with higher lvl items that don't appear until later on

I would rather just see weapons and armor (especially) level-locked.

The only problems I have with rushing are that level tens rely on droknars armor and elite skills instead of skill in ascalon arena, and the fact that noobs want to get rushed everywhere on their first character. I have been playing since world preview and the betas, and I still do the missions. Granted, I don't mission everywhere, and I have the map explored from ascalon to the wilds on all two out of three of my characters, but I don't run everywhere. (I didn't how to phrase that last sentence to read like a non-brag. I'm sure many people have the entire map explored. Please accept it as an example, not a brag. haha) I do some missions, and run some places, but at the end of the game, I have all missions and quests done. I see no point in rushing through pre-searing so you can get into ascalon to get someone to run you to droknars. Yay, you just blew 20k to get someone to rush you to a place you'll get to if you're patient. And for what, so you can beat people the same level as you in the ascalon arena? You only get like 4 faction. 4 faction for 20k?
